Your family has long been associated with shoes, what made you decide to look at the ethical market?
To me it has nothing to do with looking into a new market. Sustainable design is good design. Since the 19th Century my family has been advertising healthy, 'hygienic' shoes. The desert boot, made by my great uncle in 1948, is arguably the best example of eco shoe design there is today. I can only aspire to such great shoes and thinking. The name Terra Plana comes from a form of architecture used in Northern Spain, simple design using local materials - making clusters of housing to encourage a harmony of inside and outside living..."
