"Recycling might be a modern buzzword, but in fact the art of new-for-old has been practised for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians were right at the forefront, raiding their administrative offices for waste papyrus to turn into mummy wrappings!
Such civilisations were certainly more eco friendly than we are now in the UK. Our post-war love affair with material goods quickly became an obsession, and today we tend to throw away most of what we don't need, with the waste ending up either incinerated or in landfill sites."
